Hassan is a Palestinian human rights lawyer and the founder and General Director of Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel. Hassan has extensive experience in litigating landmark constitutional law cases before the Israeli Supreme Court. These cases deal with equal citizenship rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel as well as the applicability of international humanitarian law to defend the rights of Palestinians living under occupation. Hassan has been teaching at the law school of Tel Aviv University and other law schools as an Adjunct Lecturer on the legal status of Arab citizens of Israel for almost 15 years. He has published academic articles on citizenship, identity, transnational lawyering, and constitutionalism, was a Senior Robina Visiting Human Rights Fellow at Yale Law School in 2012-2013 and has received several awards for outstanding public interest lawyering.
