In His Own Words: Sheldon Adelson & Israel

Adelson has called Palestinians "an invented people," whose "only purpose [for existing] is to destroy Israel," claiming that they "don't want the Jews or any other religion to be alive."
While on a trip to Israel in July 2010, Adelson said that he regretted serving in the American military instead of the Israeli military, and that he hoped his son would one day be a sniper in the Israeli army, stating:
“I am not Israeli. The uniform that I wore in the military, unfortunately, was not an Israeli uniform. It was an American uniform, although my wife was in the IDF and one of my daughters was in the IDF … our two little boys, one of whom will be bar mitzvahed tomorrow, hopefully he’ll come back– his hobby is shooting — and he’ll come back and be a sniper for the IDF.”
At a conference of the American Israel Council in November 2014, Adelson said he didn’t care if Israel was a democracy or not, stating: “I don’t think the Bible says anything about democracy… [God] didn’t talk about Israel remaining as a democratic state… Israel isn’t going to be a democratic state — so what?”
Adelson is a staunch opponent of diplomacy with Iran, even calling for a nuclear bomb to be dropped on the country, stating in October 2013:
"What are we going to negotiate about? What I would say is, ‘Listen, you see that desert out there? I want to show you something… You pick up your cellphone, and you call somewhere in Nebraska, and you say, ‘okay, let it go.’ So there’s an atomic weapon goes over -- ballistic missiles -- in the middle of the desert that doesn’t hurt a soul."
"Then you say, ‘See? The next one is in the middle of Tehran.' So, we mean business. You want to be wiped out? Go ahead and take a tough position and continue with your nuclear development."
- During the same trip in July 2010, Adelson emphasized his singular focus on Israel, stating: “All [my wife and I] care about is being good Zionists, being good citizens of Israel, because even though I am not Israeli born, Israel is in my heart.”
