Palestinian Christians Clash With Israeli Police Over Separation Wall

Palestinian Christians clashed with Israeli border police near Bethlehem Wednesday after dozens of demonstrators, including priests, gathered to protest renewed work on Israel's controversial separation wall in the Christian majority town of Beit Jala. An AFP journalist said the protesters, who were joined by a few foreign activists, gathered in Beit Jala to protest building a stretch of the wall, which started Monday, after years of legal battles.

Israel Builds West Bank Separation Barrier Despite Court Ruling

The Defense Ministry resumed construction on Monday of the separation barrier near Beit Jala, south of Jerusalem, even though the High Court of Justice had invalidated the building of the barrier in that region and ordered the state to reconsider it. On Monday, heavy equipment came to the area and uprooted olive trees and earthwork in preparation for the barrier’s construction.

Israeli Forces Uproot Trees to Build Separation Wall in Beit Jala

Israeli forces on Monday uprooted trees in the Beit Jala area as they leveled Palestinian-owned land to make way for construction of the separation wall, locals said. Israeli forces reportedly uprooted the trees in an area known as Bir Onah, near the illegal settlement of Gilo. Previous reports said 100 trees were destroyed in the area, but Ma'an later confirmed the trees were instead uprooted and moved.
