Israeli forces have detained 550 Palestinians from the Hebron district of the occupied West Bank since the start of 2015, the Palestinian Palestinian Prisoners' Society's Hebron branch reported Thursday. Attacks Continue In West Bank As Settlers Assault Palestinian Man

Attacks continued in the occupied West Bank overnight Tuesday when Israeli settlers attacked and moderately injured a 60-year-old man from the central West Bank village of Ras Karkar west of Ramallah, relatives say. Mahmoud Salih Nofal was surrounded by a "mob of settlers" who assaulted him with pepper spray before violently beating him with rods, causing bruises over his body, the man's nephew Muhammad Nofal told Ma'an.

Israel Releases MP After Year of Administrative Detention

Israeli authorities released Palestinian parliament member Sheikh Hassan Youssef, 60, on Thursday as he ended his administrative detention period that was extended three times while being held in prison. Youssef was detained in mid June of 2014 during a detention campaign carried out by Israeli forces across the occupied West Bank and held in the Ofer jail near Ramallah, the Ahrar Center for Prisoners and Human Rights said.

In 1947 when the UN General Assembly voted for the partition of the region between Jews and Palestinian Arabs the land was divided on a relatively equal measure. But after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War only 22 percent of Palestinian land remained.
